MCA Meeting Recap: April 2025

Opening Statements

Long-serving Community Delegate, Rebekah Henderson, has left her post in District 6, and the seat is currently open on an interim basis. So, whoever fills the vacancy can serve as the district’s community delegate for the remainder of 2025. If that person wishes to run again, and s/he wins the election at the end of this year, which may be uncontested, that individual can then serve another term starting in January 2026.

The MCA board and delegates wish Rebekah well, and thank her for her years of service to the Central Park community.

Open Delegate Positions

Currently, there are two open positions for Central Park residents wishing to serve as community delegates, District 6 (CP North & CP West) and District 7 (Centerfield/RTD). If you, or someone you know, is interested in filling these vacancies, please reach out to the MCA’s Executive Director, Keven Burnett, at kburnett@mca80238.com, thank you.

Member Comments & Concerns

Child safety is a concern at the intersection of Central Park Boulevard & 56th Avenue, where high school students routinely jaywalk in front of fast-moving oncoming traffic, but it is at the discretion of the City of Denver’s Engineering Department to install a fence at the high school on 56th Avenue, and school leadership does not want it to “look like a prison.” So, while members of the MCA would like to see fencing as a protective measure, the board does not have the authority to install it.

Denver Police Department Update

The Denver Police Department (DPD) is patrolling 56th for street racing, pushing errant drivers out as efficiently as possible.

  • The MCA is requesting a photo radar system be used near Northfield High School in an effort to slow speeding cars.

  • District 5 is quite large, with approximately 62 schools across Central Park, Montbello, and Green Valley Ranch, and only a handle of officers, who are doing the best they can to address community concerns.

  • North End residents were once experiencing issues with mapping, but DPD has assured the MCA that all GPS-based maps are now up to date and as a result response times are quick.

Aquatics Update (Paula Deorio)

  • Swimming lessons are now viewable on the MCA website, pool rental opportunities will be viewable in May, with opportunities for after-hour parties, etc. available in mid-June.

  • The delay in offering rentals is due to preparation needs, i.e., more staff is needed to prep pools for the rental season.

Programs & Events (Dianne Deeter)

  • The Events Calendar was posted in the Front Porch on May 01.

  • Movies and Concerts will begin in June.

  • The Cube, an MCA facility located at 8371 Northfield Blvd, Denver, CO 80238, has been very successful as a rental venue. There are no preferred vendors, so anyone residents wish to use are welcome.

Executive Director (Keven Burnett)

  • Irrigation is being turned on across the community.

  • Pools are receiving new water, making for a pleasant swimming experience.

  • 6’ ceramic flowerpots were vandalized at the Aviator Pool.

  • The boiler at the Aviator Pool needs to be replaced.
